Get that…

I know, you think its cute when you tell me to "get that…" creepy, crawly thing that you're just not brave enough to get yourself although you do have that opposable thumb! Here's some dangerous creatures to canines that you may not really want us to "Git."

First Day of Spring

Since I live in Seattle I often have to go out in the rain. Most of the time I don't mind getting my feet wet, especially when I'm out on my lead. I really like to dig around in the dirt and stuff so I wouldn't want to wear rainboot sandals all the time. But when we go on walks to the beach and there's lots of puddles and stuff - these would be great!

Dog Saliva

So what is it with people having a problem with dogs giving kisses to babies? They let us sit close to them but once we open our mouths to pass on a little kissiepoo the defensive moves begin and we get pushed away and the sudden movement of the big human usually upsets the calmness that was previously established and the poor little baby cries? geesh

These kids in high school thought enough of dog saliva to do a science project to determine that there was significant potential in their experiment to show that the antibiotic properties of dog saliva would merit more study.

According to this site, if your newborn is licked by a dog, she will always be a fast healer.

And this article promotes letting your dog lick its own wounds for faster healing.

So common - just because we sometimes also lick our privates doesn't mean…well maybe it does…

The Iditarod sled dog race begins March 7 in downtown Anchorage with the restart on March 8 in Willow.  Just like the Yukon Quest that runs from Whitehorse to Fairbanks, The Iditarod is an endurance race where you battle the distance as well as the elements. You never know if there will be snow on the trail, wind, blizzards, overflow…

There's a special Canine blogger for the race - Zuma's Paw Prints gives more information about the athletes themselves (the dogs) then other happenings.

Once again, I have chosen my favorite musher to follow during the race, can you guess? Yep, Marty Buser! Go Marty!

I have a new human cousin - a pretty little girl! Kylie was born last week to Rachelle's sister. I'm so glad the my Bella will have someone to grow up with because I've had a wonderful childhood growing up with my other dog cousins!

This image is what is feels like to be able to share your time with someone you love!

Yukon Quest Update

My buddy Marty is currently in 5th place and taking a rest at the Two River Checkpoint. He's about 4 hours behind the guy in 4th place. He's got more dogs and anything can happen on the trail!

Check Updates here!

Other famous Marty's

How about this one: Marty Casey! In the top three finalists of the 2007 Rock Star: INXS

His reserved, soft spoken persona offstage belies the intense electricity he generates onstage, whether rocking out to the classics, or crooning a soft ballad.

- that man can rock!

A little Learnin' for ya'

How much do you know about my breed? Did you know that the breed is highly affectionate and we are known to be quite intelligent and easy to train. We are very social and like to be around people and other dogs.

We come in a variety of colors but we know that "rich chestnut markings on a white pearly coat" is the most handsome!

Yukon Quest Begins today!

The Yukon Quest Sleddog Race begins today and this year it is leaving from Whitehorse. For those of you who don't know about the race it runs from Whitehorse Yukon Territory to Fairbanks in Alaska. Its about a 1000-mile route through historic gold rush territory. There are 10 check points and every other year they trade off where the start and finish will be. This year the race with end in Fairbanks. A really cool feature of the web site is that you can do a google earth flyover and see exactly what the territory looks like. You do have to have the google web browser installed on your computer – its about 93M so make sure you have room and you aren't on a dial-up!

I don't know about you, but these dogs are real athletes. They run all day and all night, sleep on straw out in the raw elements of the northern february weather, and don't get to play with squeeky toys.

Can you guess who I am rooting for this year? I thought it would be obvious! Marty Buser, of course! And check out Penny and Squirrel - Yowza!

World-Wide Event: Westminister Dog Show

The 133rd annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is happening right now in New York City! I sure hope that the TV gets left on and that I can figure out how to work the remote control. There is live coverage on USA – the Toy Group will be featured on Tuesday 8p–11 pm (eastern).

The winningest breed in the Toy group is the Pekingese. I guess they are handsome, but their noses are all squished and they breath funny. The last time one of "me" made a showing was third place in 2003.

Marty Feldman - Actor Extraordinaire

Marty Feldman is one of my heros! I feel we have a certain connection, a je ne sais quio, perhaps it physical, perhaps its mental. Feldman became a US Movie favorite in his role as Igor (eye-gore) in Mel Brook's Young Frankenstein. Igro was the hunchbacked assistant to Frankenstein.
