The Yukon Quest Sleddog Race begins today and this year it is leaving from Whitehorse. For those of you who don't know about the race it runs from Whitehorse Yukon Territory to Fairbanks in Alaska. Its about a 1000-mile route through historic gold rush territory. There are 10 check points and every other year they trade off where the start and finish will be. This year the race with end in Fairbanks. A really cool feature of the web site is that you can do a google earth flyover and see exactly what the territory looks like. You do have to have the google web browser installed on your computer – its about 93M so make sure you have room and you aren't on a dial-up!
I don't know about you, but these dogs are real athletes. They run all day and all night, sleep on straw out in the raw elements of the northern february weather, and don't get to play with squeeky toys.

Can you guess who I am rooting for this year? I thought it would be obvious! Marty Buser, of course! And check out Penny and Squirrel - Yowza!
